II Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace im. Heleny Malczewskiej w Zawierciu
Our school is one of the comprehensive schools in Poland. It was founded in 1898 and currently has
477 students. Their ages are 16-19. The school has an academic focus as all of the students take
their matura exam. Zawiercie is a small town in the south of Poland. It has a population of around
50000 people. It is situated in a very beautiful area close to Krakov, Czestochowa and Katowice. Our
students come from Zawiercie or from the nearby villages. Since the collapse of the socialist state,
which took place in 1989, Poland had to face economic and social restructuration process. It meant
that the government had to adjust the economy to the laws of free market. To avoid exclusion and the
degeneration of the society the educational reforms were introduced to prepare the pupils for gaining
proper education and skills essential in a modern post-industrial society, which is based on
information and openness for the process of European integration. The reasons why our school
wants to take part in the partnership are that we want our student to make friends ,learn about
different countries and societies learn less popular languages. The partnership will enable us to
cooperate with other European countries to learn from each other and exchange experiences and
knowledge among students and teachers. We would like our students to be a part of one common
European village to have equal rights and chances as their peers all over Europe. We hope that the
project will give the students the chance to compare their abilities, social skills and educational
systems. The teachers will have the opportunity to compare educational systems, methods used in
the process of teaching and the abilities and skills used in verbal and non-verbal communication,
computer technologies to give the students equal opportunities to develop and gain experiences. Our
school has applied and completed several European Projects and International Projects. We
completed two Comenius school partnership project as partner and several student exchange
programs. In our last Comenius project , we worked as partner with our partners in Turkey before.
Our project team at school includes 5 teachers related to the topic of this project. We have one ICT
teacher, one Literature teacher, one Music teacher, one Art teacher. All of the teachers in the project
team has been involved in projects before. Our participation in these and other projects leads to a
real opportunity for our students to practice multilingualism in action. These projects have provided
the teachers and students with opportunities to acquire new skills to meet the needs of intercultural
relationship and internationalization. All the teachers of our school are very experienced. They speak
foreign languages and have worked with many projects over the years.
